HCC Roots & Futures: Building Stronger Youth Through Sports and Community
This summer, the Haitian Community Center of Greater Norwich is proud to launch HCC Roots & Futures, a dynamic youth program designed to keep young people active, engaged, and inspired. Created for youth ages 12–16, this free 4–6 week program blends athletics, mentorship, and life skills to support both personal growth and community connection.
Held at Jenkins Park in Norwich, CT, the program runs from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will serve 20–30 youth throughout the summer. Participants will take part in structured soccer and basketball activities, led by dedicated mentors and community leaders who are committed to creating a positive and supportive environment.
More Than Just Sports
HCC Roots & Futures goes beyond the game. While youth will enjoy fun, skill-building drills and friendly competition, they’ll also benefit from:
-
Mentorship and weekly check-ins that encourage accountability and growth
-
Life skills development, including teamwork, leadership, and communication
-
Nutrition and wellness education to promote healthy lifestyles
-
Guidance and positive support from trusted role models
The goal is simple: to empower youth with the confidence, discipline, and support they need to succeed both on and off the field.
A Community Celebration
As part of the program, families and community members are invited to a special FIFA Outdoor Viewing Party. This exciting event will bring everyone together to cheer on a Haitian national team match in a vibrant, outdoor setting. The viewing will take place at 63 Church Street in Norwich, creating a festive space filled with culture, pride, and community spirit.
